Spring 2009

We have had another spectacular winter season in the beautiful islands of the Bahamas. I am continually awed by the beauty and diversity offered by this amazing group of over 700 islands, which create a perfect winter playground. Our crew has been chartering in these islands for many years (the past four, together aboard Rena) yet we still discover new adventures while exploring pristinely desolate beaches and secluded anchorages amongst miles and miles of magnificent sapphire blue and emerald green sheltered waters on the Bahamas Banks.

This past winter we experienced typically warm days, with temperatures ranging from 75-80 degrees F (24-26 C), and refreshing nights ranging from 65-70 degrees F (18-22C). Water temperatures on the Banks were in the mid-70’s (mid-20’s C), which is wonderful for water-sports activities and perfectly temperate breezes off the ocean waters.

During a week aboard Rena we usually visit between four and six islands depending on the interests of our guests. We vary the itinerary based upon the weather (different areas offer better cruising depending on the wind patterns for the week), and the activities which the guests prefer, although we generally find that a perfect week offers a sampling of the Bahamas, which can include;

  • Sport fishing, water-sports, and beach combing while anchored in the crystal pool-like waters of the Exumas.
  • Casinos and shopping, coupled with the water parks and world class aquariums offered in Nassau.
  • Pink sand beaches and the consummate island hospitality found while exploring Harbour Island in your own private golf carts.

Whatever their interests, we make sure that our guests experience a uniquely special vacation while chartering Rena in the word class cruising grounds of the Bahamas.
